Mindful Parenting: How to Be Present with Your Child

A Busy Day Begins

Every morning in the Sharma household started with a whirlwind of activity. Aditi woke early to prepare breakfast for her two children, Kabir and Anaya. As soon as the kids woke up, the rush began. “Hurry up! You’ll be late for school!” Aditi would say, as she scrambled to make eggs, pour cereal, and pack lunches.

Though Aditi cherished her kids, she often felt overwhelmed by the daily routine. Between helping them dress, making sure they had everything for school, and getting them out the door, she realized she wasn’t truly enjoying time with Kabir and Anaya; she was just focused on making it through each morning.

An Eye-Opening Moment

One day, after another chaotic start to the day, Aditi felt a pang of sadness. She missed the days when they could laugh and play without rushing. Reflecting on this, she decided to reach out to her friend, Sara, who always seemed calm and happy with her kids.

Sara shared, “Why not try mindful parenting? It’s about being fully present with your children, even in the middle of a busy day. Just slow down and enjoy the small moments.”

Making a Change

Inspired by Sara’s advice, Aditi decided to try something different. The next morning, she told her kids, “Today, we’re going to have a relaxed breakfast.” She joined Kabir and Anaya at the table, chatting and laughing as they enjoyed their meal together.

Kabir tried balancing a piece of toast on his head, grinning as he said, “Look, Mom! I’m a toast monster!” Anaya giggled, and Aditi couldn’t help but laugh with them. That simple breakfast turned into a joyful moment, and she felt a warmth she hadn’t felt in a while.

Adventure with the Animal Kingdom

Wanting to keep up these mindful moments, Aditi searched for a new way to connect with her kids after school. She remembered seeing Inkmeo’s Animal Kingdom Colouring Roll online and thought, “This could be a fun activity for us!”

When the coloring roll arrived, Aditi set it up in the living room. “Let’s explore the Animal Kingdom together!” she told the kids, handing them vibrant crayons. Kabir’s face lit up as he shouted, “I’m going to make the lion rainbow-colored!” while Anaya exclaimed, “I want a pink elephant!”

They took turns, picking colors and adding life to each animal with their own creativity.

The Joy of Being Present

As they colored, Aditi asked the kids questions about the animals. “What do you think the lion likes to eat?” They shared their imaginations and stories, laughing as they painted each scene. The house was filled with laughter, and Aditi felt a stronger connection to her kids than she had in a long time.

From then on, Aditi made a habit of slowing down and enjoying these small moments with Kabir and Anaya. Whether it was helping Anaya with her homework or playing with Kabir, she focused on being fully present. She realized that even small, simple moments could create lasting memories.

One evening, after a full day of coloring and laughter, Aditi tucked her kids into bed. “Today was so much fun,” she whispered. Kabir smiled back and asked, “Can we color the animals again tomorrow, Mom?”

Aditi nodded, grateful for the changes she’d made. By being mindful and present, she wasn’t only building a stronger bond with her kids but also creating a warm, secure environment for them to grow.

In a world filled with distractions, Aditi found the beauty of slowing down. With Inkmeo’s Animal Kingdom Colouring Roll, she was building meaningful connections with Kabir and Anaya, making every moment count. Mindful parenting was about more than being present; it was about truly living each day together as a family.
